Made from lyocell; a fabric produced from gum trees. Hand dyed with eucalyptus and iron. Low waste garment; cut and manipulated from a square of fabric.
Cut, sewn and hand dyed by Maria in the Nelson Molloy Indooroopilly studio. We scavenge the eucalyptus leaves from out the back of our Nelson Molloy studio in Indooroopilly. We use soy milk as a fixative and then leave the fabric to dry. Next we bundle up the eucalyptus leaves and boil the fabric with extra ingredients. Then we let it cool and dry. We then rinse and dry again. The process in total takes roughly 12 hours and this is all before even producing the garment.
Oversized relaxed fit for comfort + v neckline + side detail. PLEASE NOTE: Due to being individually dyed + made, each Kaftan will vary from piece to piece.
This garment is as kind to your body as it is to the earth. The hand dyed lyocell is soft, lightweight and durable. The Nomad Kaftan is a perfect luxury throw over for the beach or statement piece for summer evenings with your favourite flat sandal. Kaftans are usually quite straight but the stunning side detail and changing length shifts our kaftan into something quite dramatic. You can layer over pants or a long shift like our Frolic Dress for an even more dramatic effect.
